steven universe was my favourite show as a child, and a hyperfixation of mine for three whole years. i was known around my primary school as the girl who liked steven universe because i had not learnt how to mask wholly yet and it was pretty much the only thing i would talk about ever.
i may be an adult now but this show seriously has a special place in my heart to this day. it taught me a lot about empathy and conflict resolution and it breaks my heart when i see people tearing it down for its flaws rather than celebrating the parts of it that are so brilliant.
i wasn't originally gonna make a steven universe shrine but i couldn't help but do it. it's such a special, vital part of me that i can't imagine being without today.
"Steven Universe is an American animated television series created by Rebecca Sugar for Cartoon Network. It tells the coming-of-age story of a young boy, Steven Universe (Zach Callison), who lives with the Crystal Gems—magical, mineral-based aliens named Garnet (Estelle), Amethyst (Michaela Dietz) and Pearl (Deedee Magno Hall)—in the fictional town of Beach City. Steven, who is half-Gem, has adventures with his friends and helps the Gems protect the world from their own kind."
the first proper song you hear in the series other than the theme!! simple but so cute and sweet. also the scene really showcases how much steven admires his dad which is so adorable.
this song gets me so emotional when i hear it because heughhhh little baby steven... i miss when he was so sweet and optimistic
i don't see enough people talking about greg's music. greg is one of the best parts of the show to me they really don't get him like i do. not my favourite Greg Track, that one comes a lil later lmao, but it's one i really care about too :)
still makes me a little teary. this song is the first time steven really starts to comprehend how intense everything he has to deal with is and how he's different to humans. ough my Character Ever
GODLYYYY we needed more rose songs. we were so robbed of only really having this one. rose and greg's voices blend so well and it's so good.
just cute and fun seriously!! also the way it parallels pink diamond's story when you listen back?? ougfh rebecca sugar you're insane
we needed more rupphire. this song is so cute and so sweet and the way they harmonise when they fuse into garnet is SO SATISFYING. i always cry a little
i have said i cry so much about this show but dude. this is the big one. especially with the state that the world's in at the moment this song is so important and special. imagine my shock when i went online and found out people hate peace and love on the planet earth it's so sweet and the lyrics are simple but so important,,,
obsessed with how deedee magno hall went so hard singing this they had to change the final animation from the storyboards. because how could anyone sing this absolute BALLAD calmly. mr greg is such a good episode and i hate how many people bash it it's one of the best ones in the series.
i love this song less for the song and more for the turning point in pearl and greg's relationship that it represents. their little monologue in the middle is so sweet and seeing them finally talk things out and bond is really special because they seriously do deserve to be on good terms
we're getting closer to my favourite greg song,,,i think this one is SO cute but it also really shows how rough a position greg was in when he was with rose! like that man quit his job and didn't have a home to speak of but had love for what he did and for his giant gf greg universe i will always defend you for forever
as an autistic and anxious child, here comes a thought was such a helpful song for me. still helps me ground myself when i'm spiraling to this day. the symbolism with the white butterflies, the blue tinted colour palette, ruby, sapphire, steven and connie all hanging out together? peak.
a surprising amount of people don't know about this one!! imagine my shock when i found that out because this seriously is one of the best songs from the soundtrack if you ask me. i love the grungier chord progression it has, and the intimate, stripped-back feel of it. the short it came with was super cute also :) i love you steven
THIS IS THE BIG ONE!! my favourite greg song. lyrically gorgeous, short and sweet, paints a beautiful picture of what life was like for him after the birth of steven and the death of his wife. so simple but so wonderful
literally how can anyone ever hate sadie killer and the suspects. i LOVED the sadie killer and the suspects plotline but then i went online and found everyone going "oh sadie can't sing..." bb that's kate micucci. she can sing. she just has a nerdy voice and that fits sadie as a character so well. seeing her come into her own was really special to me, since she's such a relatable character.
the test for the movie!! i LOVE how they allowed zach sing a little lower in this one, and the pre-wedding atmosphere is so sweet to me.
i remember when rebecca sugar performed this song at some convention and everyone was wondering who it'd be sung by. my vote was pink diamond, but when the episode dropped and people realised it was stevonnie i was not at all upset. also steven and connie singing the harmonies in the background is such a good touch that i don't see enough people hyping up
short and sweet but such an important message and affirmation to keep in mind. i see so many people judge this show for redeeming people easily but the whole point of the show is that steven is there to change minds. and that's so beautiful genuinely. i LOVE that this is the song the series ended on.
harmonies. that's all i have to say. harmonies.
OUGHHHHHHH sarah stiles the woman you are. she's got such a brilliant cartoony voice she was absolutely a perfect cast. i also don't know how they were able to get away with not doing an electro swing track for so long
underrated gem. i love the beatles-y feel this one comes with. i don't have much to say about it because it's pretty basic but it's just SO NICE.
a gem. i would listen to this song even if it wasn't a part of the soundtrack. it'd be such a good standalone track. also how the lyrics perfectly fit pearl's situation? like i know that's the point but it's still SO GOOD
as an autistic child who always used to do her best to fit in with the popular kids and, no matter how they'd treat me, would always feel just a bit out of place, when i first heard drift away i couldn't help but cry. i always felt like i grew up slower than all of the people around me, still clinging to things my peers had left behind even though we were the same age. this song perfectly encapsulates that feeling. spinel i will always love and relate to you.
did not love shep, but that's mostly because they never had the chance to develop. i do, however, ADORE this track when it comes to showcasing how far sadie's come. it pisses me off when i see people hating on her because she's one of the most developed and changed characters in the show and she's so lovable. all the best to my girl sadie miller for forever.
this scene always makes me so embarrassed i feel sick to the stomach but this song is seriously one of the most romantic bits of soundtrack ever. i'm so in love with how this sounds. it's gentle and loving and seriously conveys how important connie is to steven.
genuinely criminal that blue didn't get more songs. it's not a hugely notable song but her voice is so angelic. seriously listen to some lisa hannigan outside of steven universe.
controversial opinion definitely, but a FAR better outro song than love like you. maybe it's the hopeful, bossa nova sound it has but there's just something about it that's so perfect. helps end the series on a high; has this nostalgic feeling that makes it a perfect wrap of the show.
