the best dresses in media (according to me)
it wouldn't be a list of fictional dresses without sarah's gown from the labyrinth ball scene. i've wanted this dress my entire life. it's so perfectly messy and delicate and shimmery. this will always be the top spot for me. you can't beat her.
chicago has so many good dresses but mama morton's will always take the cake for me. the most flattering gown that really showcases her gorgeous curves. criminal that it only appears for a few minutes.
this is so incredibly niche but i'm so in love with mabel's dress from the first half of the pirate movie 1982. it is such a terrible movie (loving) but GODDDD this dress eats down. the off the shoulder look? the slit up the thigh? the way she debuts it standing on a cliff over the beach and has romantic moments with her man in it? oughhh it's perfect.
satine is so unbelievably stunning. this dress is so simple but so perfect. the firey red and the bunching in the back and the black gloves and the corsetted waist? they popped the fuck OFFFFFF with all of her outfits but this one is so iconic. and the romance of her duet with christian on the roof in this fit? i don't want to say perfect again butttttt. perfect
quite possibly one of the most iconic costumes ever put to screen. the sleek, slim shape with the playful pink and giant bow at the back, contrasting her elegance and playfulness? not to mention the accents of chunky silver jewelry? it's divine all around i must say
i'm such a sucker for a red dress and julia roberts is so stunning red is seriously her colour. such a breathtaking moment both in the film and out of it.
the costumes for bram stoker's dracula are all incredible but this one specific lucy dress stuck in my mind for literal years after watching it. comparing it to the labyrinth dress you can really see that i am a sucker for a puffy off-the-shoulder thang. there's just something about the pure white dress that, as well as being great symbolism for lucy as a character and how she's about to be changed by dracula, makes her gorgeous curls stand out. perfection and it's such a shame she wears it for like one scene.
mother maclaine you do not fail to stun,,,,,this low low low open back is such a moment and it will haunt me /pos for the rest of my life.
not the most showy dress but that's the whole point!! it's a more basic, sleek formal dress than the ones that giselle had been depicted wearing for the whole movie, and i love the whole reverse-cinderella it does. also that shade of purple gags me every time
this scene from singin' in the rain is one of the most romantic scenes in film ever for me, and genuinely i do think this dress has played a part in why i think it is. the gorgeous purple-blue against the sunset stage they dance on, it's so simple but so lovely. i'd love a dress like this one day...
there are so many dresses in princess jellyfish that deserve recognition, but this is THEEEE jellyfish dress. it's so simple on the top but the pearls and lace and frills on the bottom are stunning. i love this manga so much i can't help but keep an eye out; i'd love to have a jellyfish-like dress like this one.
it breaks my heart how bad this absolute stunner of a gown was nerfed in the anime. seriously you need to read the manga to appreciate it, even if it's not in colour the anime can't compare. the sheer detail it holds, and the excellence of the culmination of the entire story make it such a recognisable dress to me.
