autumn music roundup

music rambles

With the beginning of April, me and my fellow aussies are blessed to be entering the middle of autumn. Autumn has been my favourite season for as long as I can remember, definitely fostered by the gorgeous place I live. I finally get to wear my cute sweaters out of the house, the mornings get foggy, and all of the trees nearby start dropping their leaves. When there’s next a day that’s cold but not too cold, I’m planning to drive myself down to the botanic gardens, get a coffee from the cart at the parking lot and work on my novel (or read, if I’m too lazy to bring my laptop out).

Other than the cosy clothes, pretty leaves and warm coffees, one of my favourite parts of autumn is the music. With autumnal weather comes autumnal tunes to listen to on your walks through the park. I’m calling this my autumn music roundup; where I share my recommendations with you all for songs that help me add to the vibe.

Seeker Lover Keeper - Seeker Lover Keeper

I associate this album with autumn SO bad. My dad first played it to me during autumn as a child, and I fondly remember sitting in the back of the car and staring at the red maple leaves in the carpark. A smaller aussie band whose music feels like a warm hug.

ランプ幻想 - Lamp

I’m quite new to Lamp’s music, but they’ve been on loop during my study sessions. It’s gentle, cosy, and has a fresh sound that just perfectly evokes what it’s like waiting for the bus in the cold. A good introduction to Japanese music if you’re more likely to listen to songs from the west.

D>E>A>T>H>M>E>T>A>L> - Panchiko

A bit on the grungier side than the other two, but there’s something about shoegaze on a foggy day that just relaxes you. A fairly low-energy album with a fascinating story and a mysterious, nostalgic vibe that feels the same as a walk through an empty park.

Pop Food - Jack Stauber

I shouldn’t be doing any posts about music dude. I know I just keep saying “oh this album feels like autumn” well it does. This one definitely does. Good music to chill to on a cold evening, and a brilliant driving soundtrack. If you’re after something a little more experimental and quirky, definitely the way to go.

Over The Garden Wall (Official Soundtrack)

It’s not autumn if there’s no OTGW. Even though Australian autumns aren’t around Halloween, the OTGW vibe is eternal despite your country. One vibe after another. If you haven’t seen the show, then definitely try and find it and give it a try. It’s about an hour long all-in-all, has a brilliant, jazzy, folksy soundtrack, and has the most darling art and aesthetic.

I’m trying to make the most of my autumn, because it really feels like it goes by faster than all of the other seasons. Summer’s been taking its toll and overstaying its welcome, so when things start kicking into gear in April I’m always in good spirits. There’s something about the terrible weather that makes me so happy; whether it’s the smell of the woodfires around my neighbourhood burning, the warm blankets and drinks, the colours of the changing leaves or even the fact that it’s socially acceptable to stay inside all day snuggled up at my laptop writing, it just makes me feel such a special kind of happiness that I can’t get from anything else. Things have been a little rough recently, but I’m quite excited for whatever this autumn throws at me.
